Migration of a business critical freight application developed using VB6 to .NET
Client Background
- Client is a large shipping company.
- Company had one of their business critical freight application developed using VB6
- VB6 support was getting closed leaving no option for the company to move to newer platform
- Also VB8 had its own limitation on the usability
- Company decided to move to .NET
Solution
- IntelliCredence helped migrate the legacy home grown application using an automated tool from Artinsoft
- Legacy application had 5K + lines of code that need to be migrated without disturbing the functionality
- IntelliCredence agreed with the company to make a one to one migration to help them move into a new platform first and then apply any enhancement requirements
- As part of the migration IntelliCredence removed all proprietary libraries there by making the code easily maintainable
- Another key aspect of the migration was to keep the underlying database same so the old and new applications can run in parallel as the migration continues to happen
